The answer to this is less straightforward. There are definitely advantages to being an open circuit technical diver before embarking on CCR. Bailout ascents / exits are more routine, the foundations of trim and propulsion are the same. Buoyancy however can take even the most experienced OC trimix tech diver back to basics when embarking on CCR.
